Solution step 1

Open the drawer marked with the pearl in a shell. Inside, you will find a small metal ball.

Drop the ball into the hole between the tentacles. The tentacles frame a labyrinth – the same labyrinth hidden inside the chest. Guide the ball blindly through the labyrinth to the top left corner. If you succeed, the ball will appear on the left side of the window.

Continue guiding the ball to the other side of the window without letting it fall into any of the holes. If it falls in, the ball will end up in a collection tray at the back of the chest. Retrieve it and try again until you succeed. Once the ball reaches the other side, follow the visual clues: Move it in the direction indicated by the skeletal hand, then towards the dagger. The ball must fall into the hole marked with the dagger.

On the front left, there is a drawer marked with arrows. Normally, it only opens partially. Once the ball lands in the correct hole, the drawer will unlock and open completely. If it doesn't open immediately, push it all the way shut and try again. Inside, you will find two keys. When the drawer opens, the same ball that unlocked it will fall out. Keep it safe – you will need it later.

Solution step 3

Use the anchor key to open the small lock at the bottom right on the front. Insert the key into the lock marked with the same anchor symbol and turn it a quarter turn clockwise. This will unlock the code wheels on the right side of the chest.

Solution step 4

Insert the second key into the middle lock. If it doesn't fit, turn it 180° and try again. As you turn the key, observe the small windows at the positions where 6 and 3 o'clock would be on a clock face. Symbols will appear in these windows. From time to time, you will see symbols that match those on the code wheels. Find all three matching symbols. If one appears in a window, gemstones will appear in the opposite window. Pay close attention to the shape of these gemstones – you will need them shortly.

Solution step 5

Look at the slider below the combination lock. It can be moved between three positions. When you change its position:

– the gemstone-shaped windows display different symbols.

– On the opposite side of the slider, another small window shows four symbols.

Solution step 6

How to find the correct symbol for each wheel:

- Move the slider until the bottom window shows the symbol corresponding to the first code wheel.

- On the middle lock, check which gemstone shape belongs to this wheel.

- Find the corresponding gemstone-shaped window on the slider.

- You will see a new symbol in it. This symbol is the correct value for this wheel.

Solution step 7

Repeat this process for all three wheels. The final correct combination is: (see image)

Solution step 8

Once the correct combination has been set, the steering wheel can be turned a quarter turn clockwise. This unlocks the part marked with an arrow, and it can now be removed.

Solution step 9

Remove the slider hidden under the lid on the cannon side.

Take the ball and place it in the hole in front of the first cannon. Tilt the chest so that the ball rolls into the cannon barrel.

Insert the matchstick into the small fuse hole to "light the fuse". Pull back the pin in the window and let it snap to fire the cannon. Your goal is to hit the hole marked with the skull. If the ball falls into the wrong hole, it will land in a collection tray below. Take it out and try again until you hit the correct target.

After a successful hit, the ball rolls to the second cannon. Tilt the chest again to load the ball. The mechanism works the same way – you have to hit the right target. But be careful: if you miss this time, you have to start again with the first cannon. A successful second shot sends the ball to the third cannon, where you have to hit the last target. In total, you need three consecutive hits.

The last shot sends the ball into a hidden opening. This unlocks the part marked with an arrow at the bottom of the front of the chest. It works like the drawer before: Once the ball reaches the correct position, the part will unlock and can be pulled out. If it doesn't come loose immediately, push it all the way in and try again.

Don't worry if the cannons test your patience – we've built in an alternative way: simply use the slider to guide the ball into the correct hole.

Solution step 10

Take the anchor key from before and insert it into one of the three wheels on the underside of the chest. These wheels can only be turned clockwise.

As you turn them, the symbols in the windows on the right side will change – you'll see markings 1, 2, 3, or 4.

Your goal is an arrangement where each row and each column contains all four symbols (1–4) exactly once – without repetitions. Correct solution:

2 – 3 – 1 – 4

4 – 1 – 3 – 2

1 – 4 – 2 – 3

3 – 2 – 4 – 1

Once the correct pattern is set, the part marked with an arrow on the front of the chest will unlock. Pull it out – it should only extend partially.

Take the two removable parts that you unlocked earlier.

They contain a total of seven symbol equations – five on one part and two on the other.

Using all seven equations, you can determine the value of each symbol.

Start with the simplest relationships. One equation has the structure:

This means that must always be 0 – regardless of .

Another equation contains the symbol , which corresponds to the "1" position on the main compass lock. So this symbol equals 1.

With this, you can solve the equation = + , thus = 1.

Now you know the values of two symbols. Continue with the same principle: look for equations that already contain known symbols and calculate the remaining unknown values.

Step by step, you will determine all seven symbol values.

Move the slider on the bottom of the chest – it now has three positions.

Next to it are equations with the same symbols you solved before.

When you change the position of the slider, the values in the windows will update.

In the first window, you will see three new symbols:

Insert the known symbol values from the previous step and calculate:

Look at the small drawer you unlocked earlier – it shows how to enter the final code. The three calculated values are the correct combination. Enter them as follows:

1. Turn the lock clockwise, skipping the first number twice and stopping on it the third time (7).

2. Turn it counter-clockwise, skipping the second number once and stopping on it the second time. (13)
