Below you will find the solution to the Pirate Treasure Puzzle Box

On this page you will find the solution to the puzzle. Have fun puzzling!

Open the drawer marked with the pearl in a shell. Inside you will find a small metal ball.

Drop the ball into the hole between the tentacles. The tentacles frame a maze – the same maze that is hidden inside the chest. Guide the ball blindly through the maze to the top left corner. If you succeed, the ball appears on the left side of the window.

Guide the ball on to the other end of the window without letting it fall into one of the holes. If it falls in, the ball lands in a collection tray at the back of the chest. Take it out and try again until you succeed. As soon as the ball has reached the other side, follow the visual clues: Move it in the direction the bony hand is pointing, and then to the dagger. The ball must drop into the hole marked with the dagger.

On the front left there is a drawer marked with arrows. Normally it only opens partially. As soon as the ball has landed in the correct hole, the drawer is unlocked and can be opened completely. If it does not open straight away, push it all the way closed and try again. Inside you will find two keys. When you open the drawer, the same ball that unlocked it falls out. Keep it safe – you will need it again later.

Use the anchor key to open the small lock at the bottom right of the front. Insert the key into the lock marked with the same anchor symbol and turn it a quarter turn clockwise. This unlocks the code wheels on the right side of the chest.

Insert the second key into the middle lock. If it does not fit, turn it by 180° and try again. While turning the key, watch the small windows at the 6 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions. Symbols appear in these windows. From time to time you will see symbols that match those on the code wheels. Find all three matching symbols. When one appears in a window, gemstones appear in the opposite window. Pay close attention to the shape of these gemstones – you will need them shortly.

Look at the slider below the combination lock. It can be moved between three positions. When you change its position:

– the gemstone-shaped windows show different symbols.

– on the opposite side of the slider, another small window shows four symbols.

How to find the correct symbol for each wheel:

- Move the slider until the lower window shows the symbol that corresponds to the first code wheel.

- Check on the middle lock which gemstone shape belongs to this wheel.

- Find the matching gemstone-shaped window on the slider.

- Inside it you will see a new symbol. This symbol is the correct value for this wheel.

Repeat this process for all three wheels. The final correct combination is: (see image)

Once the correct combination is set, the ship's wheel can be turned a quarter turn clockwise. This unlocks the part marked with an arrow – it can now be removed.

Take out the slider hidden under the lid on the cannon side.

Take the ball and place it in the hole in front of the first cannon. Tilt the chest so that the ball rolls into the cannon barrel.

Insert the linstock into the small ignition window to "light the fuse". Pull back the pin in the window and let it snap forward to fire the cannon. Your goal is to hit the hole marked with the skull. If the ball falls into a wrong hole, it lands in a collection tray below. Take it out and try again until you hit the right target.

After a successful hit, the ball rolls to the second cannon. Tilt the chest again to load the ball. The mechanism works the same way – you have to hit the right target. But be careful: if you miss this time, you have to start again at the first cannon. A successful second shot sends the ball to the third cannon, where you have to hit the last target. In total you need three hits in a row.

The last shot sends the ball into a hidden opening. This unlocks the part marked with an arrow at the bottom of the front of the chest. It works like the drawer before: as soon as the ball has reached the right position, the part is unlocked and can be pulled out. If it does not come loose straight away, push it all the way in and try again.

Don't worry if the cannons test your patience – we have built in an alternative route: simply use the slider to move the ball into the right hole.

Take the anchor key from before and insert it into one of the three wheels on the bottom of the chest. These wheels can only be turned clockwise.

As you turn them, the symbols in the windows on the right side change – you will see the markings 1, 2, 3 or 4.

Your goal is an arrangement in which every row and every column contains all four symbols (1–4) exactly once – without repetitions. Correct solution:

2 – 3 – 1 – 4

4 – 1 – 3 – 2

1 – 4 – 2 – 3

3 – 2 – 4 – 1

Once the correct pattern is set, the part marked with an arrow on the front of the chest is unlocked. Pull it out – it should only extend partially.

Take the two removable parts you unlocked earlier.

Together they contain seven symbol equations – five on one part and two on the other.

With all seven equations you can work out the value of each symbol.

Start with the simplest relationships. One equation has the structure:

= −

This means that must always be 0 – regardless of .

Another equation contains the symbol , which corresponds to the position of the "1" on the main compass lock. So this symbol equals 1.

This lets you solve the equation = + , so = 1.

Now you know the values of two symbols. Continue with the same principle: look for equations that contain symbols you already know and calculate the remaining unknown values.

Step by step, you will work out all seven symbol values.

Solution:

Move the slider on the bottom of the chest – it now has three positions.

Next to it are equations with the same symbols you solved before.

When you change the position of the slider, the values in the windows update.

In the first window you will see three new symbols:

Insert the known symbol values from the previous step and calculate:

= 7

= 13

= 2

Look at the small drawer you unlocked earlier – it shows how to enter the final code. The three calculated values are the correct combination. Enter them as follows:

1. Turn the lock clockwise, pass the first number twice and stop on it the third time (7).

2. Turn it counter-clockwise, pass the second number once and stop on it the second time (13).

3. Turn it clockwise directly to the third number (2).

Press the part on the lid marked with an arrow. The chest should open.

If it does not, reset the lock and try again.

You have solved the puzzle box :)

1. Close the chest
Put the contents back, press the lid shut and slide the slider closed. Then turn the compass lock randomly.

2. Small drawer and wheels on the bottom
Push the small drawer marked with an arrow on the front all the way back in. Then insert the anchor key into the wheels on the bottom and turn each wheel a half turn (180°) clockwise from the solution. This puts the wheels back in their starting position.

3. Reinsert the cannon part
Push the part marked with an arrow at the bottom of the front of the chest all the way back in. Then put the slider back in.

4. Reinsert the ship's wheel part
Insert the second part marked with an arrow and turn the ship's wheel back a quarter turn counter-clockwise so the part is locked.

5. Code wheels to the starting position
Turn each of the three code wheels on the right side a half turn (180°) from the solution. This puts them back in their starting position. Move the slider below the combination lock to any position.

6. Remove the keys
Turn the key in the middle lock back and pull it out. Then turn the anchor key in the small lock at the bottom right a quarter turn counter-clockwise so the code wheels are locked again, and pull it out as well.

7. Close the arrow drawer
Put both keys back into the drawer on the front left and push it all the way closed.

8. Ball back into the starting compartment
Finally, put the metal ball back into the drawer with the pearl in the shell and close it.

Now the puzzle box can be solved again by other players.
